在二次世界大戰最黑暗的日子里，五名美國大兵，受命前往一座曾被納粹高級指揮官佔領的法國莊園。當他們進入這座莊園後，竟開始經歷一連串難以解釋的靈異現象，讓他們的世界變得瘋狂。這場難以脫逃的夢魘，似乎比戰爭所目睹事物都更加可怕…。
導演艾瑞克布萊茲透露自己的製作初衷：「戰爭的長期創傷，影響處在高壓下的士兵精神狀況，我想嘗試給觀眾帶來一些無法解釋的感覺，並透過恐怖電影形式，慢慢陷入那種恐懼且無能為力的感覺當中。」值得一提的是，劇組特地選在保加利亞拍攝這部作品，導演也開心表示：「因為那里可以重新建造一棟1940年代的法國莊園，而不是在哥倫比亞找一個年久失修的豪宅，而且在保加利亞也能使用正宗的武器、軍車和服裝！」
